meatballs in tomato sauce

Ingredients:
For the Meatballs:

1 lb (450g) ground beef or pork (or a mix)

½ cup breadcrumbs

1 egg

2 tbsp milk

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp dried oregano

½ tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

For the Sauce:

1 tbsp olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 tsp dried basil

1 tsp dried oregano

½ tsp salt

½ tsp sugar

¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:
Make the Meatballs: In a bowl, mix all meatball ingredients until well combined. Shape into small meatballs.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook meatballs until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.

Prepare the Sauce: In the same skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onion until soft. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

Stir in crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, sugar, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Add meatballs to the sauce, cover, and cook for another 15-20 minutes until meatballs are cooked through.

Serve over pasta or with crusty bread. Enjoy!
